What Killed Mills

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you once again accepting an invitation by the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG). AFAG wishes to extend our deepest condolence to the immediate family of the late president John Evans Atta-Mills, the NDC and the people of this country. AFAG wishes to thank the people of Ghana for the massive show of love to the late President and the wonderful work done by the funeral committee and all agencies that were involved in the organization.

AFAG as you know has a deep commitment to establishing transparency and accountability in our body-politic. In this direction, AFAG has taken up several causes over the past few years, all of which are intended to advance the cause of better and transparent governance for the people of Ghana.

On 24th of June this year, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Henry Martey Newman, announced the demise of President John Evans Atta Mills, until recently the President of Ghana. Continue reading



The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has requested the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to reschedule his evening encounter with them, originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday 7th July, 2012, to a new date after the burial of the late President of the Republic, H E Prof John Evans Atta-Mills.

The IEA will in due course announce a new date.

In this grave period, perhaps the darkest and most challenging in the history of Ghana’s democratic governance, the country has been hit hard with the sudden death of our finest statesman, His Excellency John Evans Atta-Mills.

Members of the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) filled with deep pain, shares with the people of Ghana, home and abroad, and the depth of pain crossing our hearts in this difficult time. AFAG, sharing in this time of grief, have responded accordingly to the one week call by President John Mahama for national mourning.

AFAG over and over again, have refrained from commenting on issues that pertained to the health of our late president. However, in this painful situation that we all find ourselves, AFAG has a voice and if God wills, we will make it known after the national week of mourning. Continue reading


The membership of Young Patriots has received, with a heavy heart, the sudden passing of our dear President, H.E. Prof Evans Atta Mills which sad event occurred at the 37 Military hospital. This is at the moment he was needed most. Ghana has lost a great man and the void that has been created cannot be filled.

In solidarity with Mrs. Naadu Mills, the membership of the National Democratic Congress and indeed the entire people of Ghana, we wish to announce the suspension of the series of demonstrations to be undertaken by Young Patriots ad infinitum. Continue reading

Akufo-Addo Mourns the Death of President Mills

Whilst on a campaign tour of the Evalue Gwira constituency in the Western Region this afternoon, I heard the sad news of the death of the President of the Republic, H E Prof John Evans Atta Mills.

I have decided to suspend immediately the rest of my campaign tour until further notice.

I express my condolences to the First Lady, Madam Naadu Mills and the rest of the family.

I extend my condolences to the government and people of Ghana on the death of the President, and also to the National Democratic Congress party on the loss of their leader.

I call on all Ghanaians to stand united in this moment of national loss and grief.

I pray to the Almighty that he gives his soul a peaceful place of abode.

May he rest in peace.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has heard with deepest regret the news of the death of the President – H.E. John Evans Atta Mills.

We join the nation in mourning this sad loss to Ghana and extend to his wife and Family, our deepest condolences.

We also extend our condolences to the National Democratic Congress.

As a mark of respect, the N.P.P. immediately suspends the celebration of its 20th Anniversary of the Party. Accordingly, our Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has suspended his campaign immediately.

We call on our fellow Ghanaians at home and abroad and friends of Ghana to join us and pray for his soul to Rest in Peace.
